Pedtech

Interactive digital learning for children using tablets.
Interactive digital learning for students using tablets and educational apps.

At IFtL, our Future Focused project sets out a clear vision for how technology can enhance learning across our trust.
As part of this work, all learners from Year 2 and above have access to a 1:1 iPad. This trust-wide, developmental approach supports leaders and teachers to learn, refine, and apply digital skills that meaningfully transform learning in their classrooms and settings. We haven’t got rid of paper, paint, pencils and scissors – instead we have added an iPad to the toolkit learners and teachers select from to amplify learning.

Our mantra is simple: digital tools should amplify learning, never get in the way. We consider how technology enables, empowers, and enriches pupils’ lived experiences, grounded in our pedagogical beliefs and the ‘Characteristics of Effective Learners’. We champion oracy, collaboration, and seek to increase the value of human interaction. In short – our digital transformation seeks to increase capacity in teachers and learners to be more human and have more interactions that add value to their living and learning.

We are proud that this work has been recognised nationally and that IFtL has been awarded Apple Regional Training Centre status. A central feature of our RTC offer is our Discovery Days—immersive opportunities to explore high-quality PedTech in action. More details, including booking information, are provided below.

Following a research partnership with Dr Fiona Aubrey-Smith exploring effective iPad use across our schools, we published our report Impacting Learning: Impacting Futures. An electronic version is available to download here.
