As this term draws to a close, St Mary & St Giles Church of England School—part of Inspiring Futures through Learning (IFtL), an academy trust with schools across Corby and Milton Keynes—proudly reflects on an extraordinary year for its Year 6 children. Since joining IFtL, the school has focused relentlessly on strengthening provision, enriching learning experiences and driving improvement. Last year’s achievements show just how far the school has come.

Last academic year’s SATs outcomes were fantastic. 83% of children achieved the expected standard in reading, comfortably outperforming the national average of 75%. In maths, 75% reached age-related expectation, above the national average and marking notable improvement, demonstrating the impact of focused support and determination. Writing results also surpassed national figures, with 77% meeting the expected standard compared with 72% nationally.

Performance in grammar, punctuation and spelling (EGPS) was particularly impressive, with 87% of children achieving the expected standard—significantly above the national figure of 73%. The combined reading, writing and maths measure rose to 67%, again exceeding the national average of 62%. Incredibly, 39% of children achieved greater depth in reading, with more than a third of children achieving greater depth in maths and EGPS respectively – a remarkable accomplishment that reflects their commitment and the high-quality teaching guiding them.

The progress demonstrated by the children throughout their time at St Mary & St Giles—and especially last year—stands as a testament to their resilience and the dedication of colleagues across the school.

Alongside academic success, children enjoyed a vibrant programme of enrichment. Their residential trip brought adventure, teamwork and laughter, and the lively ‘School of Pop’ production showcased their creativity and confidence on stage. The end-of-year service at St Mary and St Giles church and following graduation ceremony provided meaningful moments for families, colleagues and children to celebrate their journey together. Proud smiles, warm tributes and emotional farewells filled the occasion.

Headteacher Adam Palmer expressed his pride, sharing:
“Our Year 6 children showed remarkable determination and maturity throughout the year. Their achievements, both academically and personally, reflect their hard work and the unwavering support of our colleagues. We couldn’t be prouder of the confident, compassionate young people they have become. These results truly demonstrate the positive impact of our continued work within IFtL.”

St Mary & St Giles extends heartfelt congratulations to every Year 6 child. Their achievements and character have left a lasting legacy, and they remain forever part of the SMSG family.
