IFtL Celebrates CEO Sarah Bennett and Melanie Saunders, Head of School Improvement, on Their Appointment to the Confederation of School Trusts’ Policy Advisory Group

Inspiring Futures through Learning (IFtL) is delighted to announce that CEO, Sarah Bennett and Melanie Saunders, Head of School Improvement, have been appointed as members of the Policy Advisory Group of the Confederation of School Trusts (CST).

The formation of the Policy Advisory Group underscores CST’s commitment to enhancing its engagement channels by establishing a standing forum where members provide continuous insight, advice, and feedback on policy issues and challenges. This group will maintain an ongoing presence to address evolving policy needs, ensuring that the breadth of views among CST members is reflected in the organisation’s work with governments, civil servants, agencies, and other key partners.

CEO Sarah Bennett expressed her delight and dedication, stating, “I am deeply committed to shaping and influencing the future of education for all children and young people and this appointment provides a unique opportunity to contribute directly to policy discussions that affect the next generation. It is an honor to be part of such an influential group, and I look forward to collaborating with fellow leaders to advance education for the public good.”

Melanie Saunders, Head of School Improvement, added, “Being appointed to this advisory group is both a privilege and a responsibility. I am excited to bring my experience and dedication to the table, contributing to policies that empower schools and enhance educational outcomes. This role reflects our shared commitment to community leadership and fostering continuous improvement.”

These appointments align with IFtL’s strategic priority “to lead within our communities, recognising our wider civic responsibility. We are proud to collaborate with other civic structures to advance education for the public good—both in the communities we serve and beyond”. IFtL believes in living their mission by contributing to the broader educational landscape and advocating for positive change that impacts current and future generations.

CST’s Policy Advisory Group was formed through a rigorous nomination and election process, involving accounting officers, executive leaders from each Department for Education region, and specialists in SEND/AP. The group’s diverse composition ensures representation across various demographics, trust sizes, and areas of expertise. This prestigious appointment coincides with the CST’s sixth anniversary, a milestone for an organization that now represents over 75% of all academies in England.
