Swimming Workshops

Over the next 4 weeks we are making places available for every school within the MKTSA subscription to access 4 workshops on school swimming and water safety. These workshops will be led by Swim England, The Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) and the Association for Physical Education (afPE).

These sessions are aimed at teachers, PE Leaders, Classroom support staff or sports coaches working in schools and will be hosted on Zoom.

All sessions are 4:00pm-5:30pm and will include questions and answer sessions.

11th March 2021:

“Overcoming challenges in accessing swimming due to Covid 19”. During this workshop we will be covering:

• Support for schools on how to identify and overcome the challenges now faced in accessing swimming pools due to Covid-19.

• Give advice on what to expect when arriving at the pool and how a lesson will now be structured.

• Give ideas for schools on how to support those children that have missed out on swimming lessons due to Covid-19 through theoretical classroom based sessions.

• Advice on how to offer top-up swimming or intensive courses.

18th March 2021:

Supporting SEND pupils in accessing swimming lessons: This workshop will give advice and support on how to make swimming lessons more inclusive for

SEND pupils to achieve and progress towards the national curriculum outcomes for school swimming. It will identify barriers to participation and ideas on how to overcome them.

Time: 16.00 – 17.30hrs

Thursday 25th February – Guidance for Schools and teachers on best practice for school swimming lessons: This workshop is designed to give schools the knowledge of what a good school swimming lesson should look like. In addition it will outline the quality of service that schools should expect from their provider. From advice on the types ofn qualification required to deliver swimming lessons, to the safe supervision of the lessons. This workshop will cover all the requirements for an effective and efficient schoolswimming programme.

Thursday 4th March: How Swimming links with other national curriculum outcomes: This workshop is designed to show how swimming can link to the National Curriculum purpose, aims and attainment targets. It will give delegates ideas on new swimming related activities both for in the pool and the classroom. It will also explore the contribution of swimming on the wider outcomes which impact on whole school improvement.
