Early Years Observation and Assessment – 4 date course

This course is aimed at EYFS teachers, practitioners and EYFS Leaders. (Assessment leads may wish to join session 2 and 3) and is being facilitated by Sarah Armitage and Kirsty Outtram.


This course will be essential if Early Years is a priority area in your school. Attendees should be teaching in the EYFS and be prepared to attend 3 sessions, with practical tasks being completed between the sessions. There will be an optional drop-in session in addition. It is essential your school is using EExAT.

Scope of this CPD

This 4-part course will focus on observation and assessment using the revised EYFS Framework.

Session One: Observation and Assessment using the revised EYFS Framework.

Session Two: Analysing Window 1 EExAT data – getting the most from the reports.

Session 3: Using EExAT to conduct Pupil Progress meetings – drilling down and looking for lines of inquiry

Session 4: EExAT workshop – bookable slots for support

School Commitment required for this CPD

The first 3 sessions are essential and will be approx. 2.5 hours long

A 4th session will be an optional session for support with the use of EExAT.

There will be gap tasks to complete, allowing attendees to implement and embed in their own schools

Impact and Benefits of this CPD

Attendees will understand and value observation and assessment in line with the revised EYFS Framework.

Attendees will be confident to use EExAT as an integra part of their EY practice, including using the reports and data to monitor, review and lead pupil progress meetings.
